Hello & welcome!

My name is John Steel and like many musicians, I have always dreamed of having a ‘sound-proofed’* space to practice and record in.

Three years ago, I began to think seriously about how I might actually achieve this and started on a journey of discovery that has taken up most of my time, attention and spare cash ever since. I am finally at the point at which I can start building and I’ll detail the progress in this blog along with an explanation of how I arrived at the design, as well as other aspects of the project. “Building a studio – How hard can it be?” Well, the short answer is “as hard as you allow it to be, then a bit more”. (*Spoiler alert! There is no such thing as ‘sound proofing’.)
